Already a Mentee?

Everyone could use a mentor...

Everyone could use a mentor...

…but most designers don’t have one.

Whether you are a self-taught graphic designer, or even someone established in a company, it is likely you do not have someone to learn or grow from. Having someone to review work with, solve design problems with, process career challenges with, or celebrate wins with can be a vital part in growing as a graphic designer.

Being in an industry where many designers are independent or remote doesn’t mean you have to go at it on your own.

What you can get out of graphic design coaching & mentoring:

  • Receive reviews on current projects or portfolio work and receive feedback or next steps.

  • Strengthen knowledge and ability in design building blocks such as layout, typography, color theory, visual branding, asset construction, and more.

  • Learn beginner and intermediate technical skills in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

  • Have a safe place to discuss your graphic designer career, from the challenges of being a senior designer helping to lead a team, to new designer figuring out how to break into the the industry.

  • Receive growth plans or next steps to get to your next level as a designer.

  • Simply have someone to listen to you—you don’t have to go at it alone!

After graduating college I was supposed to jump straight into my career, but I was terrified to do it. It wasn’t until years later that I jumped into my first junior graphic design position. I thought I knew what was I doing in this new job but it only took two months for me to feel overwhelmed by the role and to have me crying at my desk in front of my co-workers. Fun way to start, huh?

A lot of work and growth, years under my belt, and many tears later, I went from junior designer to senior designer, to eventually art directing and leading design teams. I say that to tell you I’ve probably been where you are. I’ve been at the place where your technical skills aren’t enough. I’ve been at the place where your ideas and concepts get thrown in the trash. I’ve been at the place where everyone is looking to you to be decision maker. I’ve experienced the outrageous deadlines, the crazy clients, the impossible asks.

Graphic design can be a very demanding career, it isn’t all pretty graphics and cool concepts. It is hard and technical work. But I’m thankful for the few teachers, mentors, and seniors above me who believed in me, taught me, and encouraged me to my potential.

After leading multiple designers over the years, I learned that I love watching people grow. It is incredible to watch graphic design really begin to click for someone, and sometimes it is just a few missing keys that they need. Wherever you are in your career, I hope that I can be your coach or mentor to help you become the graphic designer you dream of being.

Want to try it out?

Just like any good coach, you want to make sure you find the right one. That’s why I make the first session free: for you to find out if I’m a good fit for you or not.

In your first session, we will get to know each other, talk about your career, and discuss where you want to head. This is also a place to ask questions and see what having a graphic design coach or mentor could be like.

Session is 60 minutes long.
Session is held through an online video call.
  • Sessions are built dependent on each designer’s goals, dreams, and strengths/weaknesses. For some mentees, we go through live design work and teaching, for other mentees it is simply a place to discuss and process and seek guidance. My goal as a coach and mentor is to find what works best for where you are in the journey and build sessions around that.

First Sessions are more introductory, we use this session to talk through where you are as a designer, where you want to head, and the goals we want to pursue. An email with a introduction survey will be sent prior to this session to help guide the conversation. If you are jumping into this process and don’t know where to head, no problem! We can use this first session to begin to discover goals and dreams together.

  • Video sessions are held via Google Meet. After you book a session, an email with a link to your scheduled Google Meet will be sent to you. Google Meet gives us the opportunity to talk face-to-face and to be able to share screens and work through designs live.

  • After your first free session, each session is $80.

  • No worries! Your confirmation email for your session will have an option for rescheduling. You can also reach out via the contact page or by sending an email to contact@jp-gd.com and we can find a new time for our session.
